FOIA docs show feds can lojack mobiles without telco help

FOIA docs show feds can lojack mobiles without telco help.

“As one of the documents intended to provide guidance for DOJ employees explains, triggerfish can be deployed “without the user knowing about it, and without involving the cell phone provider.” That may be significant because the legal rulings requiring law enforcement to meet a high “probable cause” standard before acquiring cell location records have, thus far, pertained to requests for information from providers, pursuant to statutes such as the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) and the Stored Communications Act.”

ASCII by Jason Scott / Another Blu-Ray Strike

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

OK, I admit it. Nights get long down here at Jason Scott Ranch and I don’t like to just walk away from things for political/ethical reasons just because my politics and ethics fall along a different path than others might. So a combination of wanting to consider all my options and the fact that my DVD mastering software has a Blu-Ray option made me consider what would be involved in putting my movie out on the “winner” of the home media wars, Blu-Ray Disc.

If this material also had amazing properties that made it highly conductive of heat and electricity, it would start to sound like something out of a science fiction novel. Yet one Florida State University research group, the Florida Advanced Center for Composite Technologies (FAC2T), is working to develop real-world applications for just such a material.”

Twitter Gets A Conference

The latest sign Twitter is either taking off or overhyped: Telecom (and media) industry vet Jeff Pulver is organizing a two-day Twitter-related conference, scheduled for mid-June in New York.

Apparently twitter thinks getting everyone together in a room is going to lead to something more then a bunch of twitter folks twitting about the conference ;) Rock on, I’d think they’d be smarter doing SFO, but what do I know ;)
